Segun Showunmi Breaks Silence On Wife’s INEC Redeployment Amid APC Campaign Role
Segun Showunmi, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 Presidential Campaign Council, has rejected allegations that his wife, Oluyemi Titilayo Adeyemi-Showunmi, was redeployed within the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as a reward for his political involvement.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the political commentator made the clarification during an interview on Channels Television, where he strongly objected to suggestions that his appointment to the APC campaign council influenced his wife’s new posting.
Reports indicate that Adeyemi-Showunmi, who previously worked in INEC’s administration department in Lagos State, was redeployed to head the Electoral Operations Department. Her reported appointment followed the movement of Isah Magaji Gummi, who previously headed the department, to the Voter Registry Department.
When asked whether his participation in the APC campaign was connected to his wife’s redeployment, Showunmi firmly dismissed the suggestion.
“Don’t you dare say that about me. Reward who? Reward who?” he said during the interview.
He described his wife as a career civil servant who had spent her entire working life at the electoral commission, stressing that her professional progression should not be linked to his political activities.
“That’s a civil servant. She’s a Level 17 officer and has worked in INEC all of her life,” Showunmi stated.
He also referenced her previous position as INEC’s Administrative Secretary in Lagos State, questioning the basis for suggesting that her latest posting was politically motivated.
Adeyemi-Showunmi’s reported redeployment has attracted attention amid preparations for the 2027 general election and Showunmi’s involvement in the ruling party’s presidential campaign council.
Showunmi previously served as a spokesperson for the 2019 presidential campaign of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar. His current role in the APC campaign council has prompted questions about the relationship between his political activities and his wife’s career, allegations he has strongly denied.
