PSG Hit By Major Blow As Kvaratskhelia Suffers ACL Rupture Against Barcelona

Paris Saint-Germain winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is set to undergo knee surgery after suffering a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during the French champions’ 4-2 victory over Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the Georgia international sustained the injury following a challenge with Barcelona defender Xavi Espart during the encounter at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday, October 20.

The 25-year-old winger was unable to put weight on his right leg after the incident and was forced to leave the pitch in the 59th minute, raising immediate concerns about the severity of his condition.

PSG have confirmed the need for surgery, but the club has yet to announce a recovery timeline for the forward. His absence could represent a significant setback as the team continues its campaign in Europe’s premier club competition.

Kvaratskhelia joined PSG from Napoli in January 2025 and has since become an important member of the squad. He has made 11 appearances for the Parisian club this season, contributing to its attacking options.

The winger’s injury adds to PSG’s growing fitness concerns, with the club also facing the absence of forward Ousmane Dembele and captain Marquinhos for several weeks.

Dembele is reportedly dealing with a left thigh injury, while Marquinhos has sustained an injury to his right thigh. The setbacks leave PSG without three key players at a crucial stage of the season.

Despite the injury concerns, PSG secured an important victory over Barcelona to maintain their perfect start in the Champions League. The two sides were level at 2-2 heading into the final 10 minutes before the hosts scored twice to claim all three points.

The club will now await further medical updates on Kvaratskhelia as it assesses the impact of his injury on its plans for the remainder of the campaign.
