Globacom has brought the 2026 Ofala Festival to a grand close with a royal banquet in honour of the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, popularly known as Agbogidi, in Onitsha, Anambra State.

The event, held on Wednesday, attracted the traditional ruler, members of his cabinet, Globacom trade partners and high-net-worth customers, marking the conclusion of the cultural festival sponsored by the telecommunications and digital solutions company.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Globacom’s Divisional Head for the South East, Michael Ehumadu, said the banquet highlighted the importance of collaboration between corporate organisations and traditional institutions in preserving Nigeria’s cultural heritage.

Ehumadu congratulated Igwe Achebe, the Ofala Festival organising committee and the people of Onitsha on the successful celebration. He also reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote Nigeria’s cultural diversity, strengthen community relationships and showcase the country’s rich traditions to the international community.

The banquet featured a vibrant mix of cultural entertainment, music and comedy. Guests were treated to performances by Aniweta Mazeli, Boy o Boy and the Groove Band, while comedian MC Ezegetive entertained the audience with his performance.

The entertainers added excitement to the gathering, creating memorable moments for the royal household, community leaders and other distinguished guests in attendance.

As part of its activities, Globacom also rewarded various Onitsha age-grade associations for their performances in competitions held during the festival. Winners received cash prizes and trophies in recognition of their competitive spirit, discipline and commitment to community participation.

The company further distributed hundreds of bags of special Basmati rice to members of the different age-grade associations, extending its support to the groups that contributed to the festival’s activities.

Globacom’s continued sponsorship of the Ofala Festival reflects the role corporate organisations can play in supporting traditional institutions, preserving cultural practices and enhancing the social and economic benefits of community celebrations.

The 2026 edition once again provided an opportunity to celebrate Onitsha’s cultural identity while bringing together traditional leaders, residents, business partners and other stakeholders in a shared atmosphere of tradition and festivity.
