There’s No Future, There’s No Present — Lady Speaks After Man Blocks Her Over Money Question

Published

A Nigerian lady has sparked widespread reactions on social media after revealing that a man she had been talking to for three weeks blocked her following their first date because she asked about his annual income.

The lady disclosed the experience in a video shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, explaining that she went on a date with the man before discovering the following day that he had blocked her.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the lady said the man considered her question about his yearly earnings inappropriate and described it as rude. He reportedly argued that she would also be offended if someone asked her a similar question.

However, the lady disagreed with his position, insisting that financial discussions were important when determining whether a potential partner was suitable for a serious relationship.

She questioned why some people considered conversations about money inappropriate during the early stages of dating, arguing that understanding a person’s financial situation could help establish whether both parties shared compatible expectations for the future.

The lady maintained that women should pay attention to practical issues, including their potential partners’ earnings, monthly expenses and spending habits, rather than focusing exclusively on less consequential topics such as favourite colours, preferred meals or previous relationships.

She explained that knowing how much a prospective partner earns and spends could provide insight into their financial responsibilities and help determine whether they were prepared for a committed relationship.

The lady further revealed that the man had never blocked her before the incident. She added that he later demanded an apology over the question, but she refused to offer one despite initially apologising.

Defending her position, she argued that asking about a man’s income was not necessarily about material gain but about understanding his financial capacity and assessing whether the relationship had a realistic future.

She maintained that financial compatibility was an important consideration when choosing a life partner and questioned the value of pursuing a relationship without understanding such fundamental details.

The incident has reignited conversations online about dating expectations, financial transparency and the appropriate time to discuss income with a potential partner.

While some may consider questions about earnings too personal during an early date, others view financial conversations as necessary when seeking a long-term relationship.

The lady concluded by asking other women to share the questions they typically ask men during dates, particularly whether discussing income early in the dating process was reasonable or inappropriate.
