Ruth Kadiri Warns Couples Against Lavish Weddings, Reveals How They Can Affect Marriages
Nollywood actress Ruth Kadiri has advised couples to consider organising modest weddings, warning that the pressure associated with expensive ceremonies can affect their mental well-being and put unnecessary strain on their marriages.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the actress shared her views in a post on Instagram, where she highlighted the emotional and financial challenges couples may face when planning elaborate wedding celebrations.
Kadiri observed that while some couples date for several years before getting married, their relationships may change after the wedding ceremony. She urged intending couples to pay attention to the realities of married life rather than focus excessively on meeting societal expectations.
“Big weddings put pressure on couples and the marriage itself, and I don’t think people realise that. People can date for years, but after the wedding, some people change,” she stated.
The actress explained that the demands of organising lavish ceremonies could place couples under considerable pressure, particularly when they feel compelled to spend beyond their financial capacity to satisfy family members, friends or other people.
She encouraged couples to prioritise their peace of mind and the long-term stability of their relationships instead of measuring the success of their weddings by how grand or expensive the celebrations appear.
Kadiri’s remarks also drew attention to the importance of financial planning and emotional preparedness before marriage, noting that unnecessary pressure during wedding preparations could affect a couple’s well-being.
Her advice reinforces the view that a successful marriage should be built on mutual understanding, commitment and responsible financial decisions rather than the size of a wedding ceremony.
The actress’s comments come amid ongoing conversations on social media about wedding expenses, societal expectations and the financial challenges many young couples face when preparing to begin married life.
