The Kebbi State House of Assembly has adopted the state’s Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP) for the 2027–2031 period, setting the stage for the preparation of annual budgets and the implementation of development priorities.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the lawmakers approved the documents during plenary on Tuesday after considering a report presented by the joint committee on finance and appropriation, budget monitoring, economic planning and due process.

The committee chairman, Adamu Muhammad Birnin Yauri, said the framework would serve as a guide for preparing annual budgets and ensure that government spending aligns with the state’s development objectives.

He explained that the fiscal plan prioritises people-oriented programmes and projects while seeking to maximise existing economic opportunities and explore new areas of growth.

Birnin Yauri added that the documents were prepared in line with the 1999 Constitution, as amended, and relevant state laws governing public finance, fiscal responsibility, procurement and auditing.

According to him, the framework also takes into account global economic indicators and Nigeria’s prevailing economic conditions to ensure that the state’s financial projections reflect current domestic and international realities.

The committee chairman described the projections as realistic, considering the prevailing economic climate and the government’s efforts to improve internally generated revenue.

He urged the lawmakers to adopt the documents, stating that they would provide a foundation for fiscal sustainability, responsible financial management and economic growth in Kebbi State.

The motion for adoption was moved by Muhammad Garba Bena and seconded by Muhammad Buhari Aleiro.

The Speaker of the House, Salihu Maikasuwa Dangoje, subsequently put the motion to a voice vote, after which the lawmakers adopted the committee’s report and the accompanying fiscal documents.

Following the approval, the Assembly is expected to transmit the documents to Governor Nasir Idris for assent, marking another step in the state’s preparations for its medium-term budgetary and economic planning cycle.
