Army GOC Urges Katsina Communities To Provide Intelligence To Crush Insecurity
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Nigerian Army’s 1 Division, Major General Abubakar Sadiq Mohammed Wase, has urged communities in Katsina State to provide timely and credible intelligence to security agencies to strengthen efforts to combat insecurity.
According to Bush Radio Academy, Wase made the appeal on Tuesday during an operational assessment visit to the area of responsibility of the Army’s 17 Brigade, where he interacted with residents of Dokolo community in Machika, Sabuwa Local Government Area.
The appeal was contained in a statement issued by the Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 1 Division, Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi.
Wase stressed that effective collaboration between local communities and security personnel was essential to successful military operations, particularly in identifying suspicious movements and detecting potential security threats before they escalate.
He encouraged residents to maintain communication with security agencies and share reliable information that could assist troops in preventing criminal activities and protecting lives and property.
As part of the visit, the GOC also inspected troops at the Forward Operating Base in Faskari to assess their operational readiness, working conditions and capacity to carry out their assigned responsibilities.
During his interaction with the soldiers, Wase urged them to uphold professionalism, discipline and vigilance in the discharge of their duties. He also assured them that the Army remained committed to addressing their welfare concerns and logistical requirements to improve operational effectiveness.
In a separate engagement, the senior military officer visited Dutsinma to convey the condolences of the Chief of Army Staff to the family and followers of Sheikh Yahaya Masussuka, who was recently killed.
Wase appealed to residents to remain calm and law-abiding while security agencies continue investigations into the killing. He assured the community that efforts were ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible for the incident.
The Army reiterated the importance of cooperation between security forces and local communities in addressing threats across Katsina State, noting that credible intelligence and public collaboration could support efforts to restore peace and protect vulnerable communities.
