What Concerns My Life With You? – Lady Fumes Over Constant Questions About Having Another Child

Published

A Nigerian woman has criticised people who repeatedly pressure her to have more children, insisting that her decision to stop giving birth should be respected.

The mother of one, who already has a son, expressed her frustration in a viral video, where she called out individuals who make unsolicited comments about her family size whenever they encounter her.

According to the woman, some people, particularly women, frequently ask when she plans to have another child. She explained that whenever she tells them she is no longer interested in having children, they respond by urging her to rebuke the decision.

Questioning why anyone should expect her to expand her family against her wishes, she said people should understand that her reproductive choices are personal and do not concern outsiders.

She expressed disappointment that a simple greeting often turns into an opportunity for others to question her decision about having more children.

The woman also criticised those who pressure others to have large families without considering the responsibilities and challenges involved in raising children.

She maintained that nobody should dictate how many children she should have, adding that such personal decisions should be left entirely to the individuals concerned.

Warning that she could eventually lose her patience with those who continue making such remarks, she said people might accuse her of disrespect if she responds angrily.

“Na small thing dey make me vex. If I start to insult una now, una go say I no get respect for elders. I dey my dey, una go dey bring rubbish talk up,” she added.

The video has drawn attention to discussions surrounding reproductive freedom, family planning and the pressure some women face from relatives, friends and members of society over the number of children they should have.
