They Kept Debiting My Account – Lady Shares Shocking Experience With Purported Government Grant

Published

A Nigerian woman has raised the alarm after allegedly losing money while attempting to access a purported ₦50,000 Federal Government grant through a link circulated on social media.

In a video shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, the woman explained that several people had sent her the link, but she initially ignored it because she was unsure of its authenticity.

However, she said she eventually decided to try it after a friend encouraged her, claiming to know someone who had successfully received the supposed financial assistance.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the woman disclosed that after clicking the link, she was instructed to share it with between five and 10 people before providing her bank account number.

She said she followed the instructions and submitted her account details, only to begin receiving repeated debit alerts shortly afterwards.

Recounting her experience, the woman appealed to Nigerians for assistance, explaining that she had initially believed the link was genuine because of her friend’s assurance that someone had benefited from the programme.

She expressed shock over the unexpected transactions, lamenting that money continued to disappear from her account after she submitted the requested banking information.

The incident has drawn attention to the growing risks associated with fraudulent online offers and links designed to exploit people seeking financial assistance.

It has also renewed concerns about the circulation of unverified government grant announcements, particularly those promising direct cash payments to members of the public.

Nigerians are therefore advised to verify financial assistance programmes through official government platforms and avoid submitting sensitive banking information on suspicious websites or links.

Members of the public are also encouraged not to share unverified grant links, as doing so could expose friends and relatives to similar fraudulent activities.
