In Phnom Penh, a 48-year-old Nigerian man and his 37-year-old Cambodian wife have been detained for their involvement in a romance scam.
The suspects were apprehended by the Anti-Technology Crime Department’s specialized forces in collaboration with the Phnom Penh Municipal Police and the Phnom Penh Municipal Prosecutor’s Office.
According to a statement made by the Anti-Technology Crime Department on Saturday, October 15, 2022, the suspects were involved in a love fraud on the social network WhatsApp.
The duo had sought the money by posing as attractive girls and then demanding expenses for products that the phony lover had ordered.
Following the interrogation, the Anti-Technology Crime Department built a case and referred the two suspects to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court for further proceedings.
