In a daring operation carried out in the early hours of July 7, 2023, troops from the 223 Battalion, under Sector 1 of the Joint Task Force in North West Operations Hadarin Daji, achieved a significant victory. They rescued 24 kidnapped individuals, including a child, following a fierce shootout with notorious bandits at Kabugu Lamba—an abandoned village located in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara state, in the North West region of Nigeria. Led by the courageous Commanding Officer of the Battalion, the gallant troops relentlessly pursued and engaged the bandits in a fierce firefight, resulting in the elimination of four of the criminals. Their resolute action displayed immense bravery and dedication to duty.

The rescued victims, comprising nine females, fourteen males, and a minor, were successfully extricated from the clutches of the kidnappers’ hideout and promptly evacuated by the troops. The swift and decisive operation not only secured the freedom of the captives but also dealt a significant blow to the criminal activities of the bandit group.

The troops’ valorous efforts in rescuing the kidnappedvictims and neutralizing the abductors demonstrate their unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the region.
