Judgment Reserved as Presidential Election Petition Court Considers APM’s Petition Against Tinubu’s Nomination

The Presidential Election Petition Court has reserved its judgment in the petition filed by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), which seeks the disqualification of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from the February 25, 2023 presidential election on the grounds of unlawful nomination.

The court adjourned indefinitely after parties involved in the matter presented their final addresses and made various requests.

The APM alleges that Shetima’s double nomination, facilitated by the All Progressives Congress (APC), breaches the Electoral Act. During the proceedings, APM’s counsel urged the court to nullify Tinubu and Shetima’s nominations based on their unlawful and unjustifiable nature.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the first respondent, urged the court to dismiss the petition for lacking merit.

The APC, represented by Prince Lateef Fagbemi, argued for the petition’s dismissal on all grounds, deeming it frivolous and unwarranted.

Tinubu and Shetima’s legal representative, Chief Wole Olanipekun, contended that the petition should never have been filed and demanded its dismissal.

The Presiding Justice of the Court, Justice Haruna Simon Tsammani, adjourned the judgment indefinitely and assured the lawyers that they would be notified once the judgment is ready.
