They reminded the Northern group that an Abuja Appeal Court had already acquitted and discharged Kanu, and thus, Tinubu should order his immediate release.
IPOB called on Tinubu to act upon the advice of concerned Nigerians and release their leader in the best interest of the country. The group further warned the Northern coalition to refrain from interfering with Kanu’s illegal and unconstitutional detention.
Emma Powerful stated, “The Coalition of Northern Group, advising the Nigerian President to follow the rule of law, is unaware that the Appeal Court of Nigeria in Abuja has already acquitted Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. The Nigerian government’s actions are in violation of both domestic and international laws.”
IPOB emphasized that they would legally hold Nigeria accountable both locally and internationally if the government persisted in denying Kanu’s freedom and thwarting their demand for a United Nations-supervised referendum.
They urged the government to release Kanu unconditionally and provide the compensation ruled by both the Abuja Court of Appeal and Umuahia High Court.
The group strongly believed that persisting with Kanu’s illegal detention, as desired by the Coalition of Northern Bandits, would lead to dire consequences for Nigeria and its beneficiaries.
