NUJ Anambra Council Chairman, Dr. Emeka Odogwu, criticized the government’s actions, describing it as an “open ill-treatment” of journalists and portraying the state government as lacking compassion.

He called on journalists nationwide to unite and protest against the injustice faced by the newspaper’s workers.

He questioned why the government was hiring new workers but not taking care of the National Light employees, who he believed had done no wrong.

In response to the claims, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Chief Paul Nwosu, denied any directive to shut down the newspaper house.

He stated that there had been no official discussion or public statement regarding the closure during the last Executive Council meeting of the state.
