This commendable initiative, as clarified by Dele Alake, Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties, Communications & Strategy, is aimed at ensuring easy and economical accessibility to campuses for students. This move will inevitably lessen the financial pressure on parents and guardians, while also decreasing the additional daily commuting expenses burdening students.
Aligning with his pledge to prevent any Nigerian student from forfeiting their academic pursuits due to financial hardship, President Tinubu has also lifted all restrictions on student loans. This makes them accessible to any student or household in need, as affirmed by Mr. Alake. CONTINUE READING
President Tinubu, cognizant of the economic burdens that parents and students may face, has urged the authorities of all Federal Institutions of higher learning to abstain from any arbitrary increases in sundry fees. He has also proposed the deferral of potential fee hikes to further ease the financial strain on families.
In addition to these measures, Mr. Alake confirmed that President Tinubu has sanctioned the release of over 200,000 Metric Tonnes of grains to families across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. This initiative will also be extended to include vulnerable students, who will benefit from conditional cash transfers and food distribution.
The Federal Government, represented by Mr. Alake, has expressed admiration for the resilience, wisdom, and cooperation of Nigerian students as the nation steers through these challenging times.
President Tinubu remains committed to prioritizing education and the needs of students, improving the welfare of teaching and non-academic staff, and investing in infrastructure to elevate the global competitiveness of Nigerian institutions of higher learning.
