The Governance Monitor Initiative (GMI), a civil society organization, has demanded the immediate redeployment of Mahmuda Mamman, the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Works, for allegedly sabotaging the government’s efforts to implement new reforms in line with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

In a press conference held in Abuja, GMI’s program manager, Frank Chigozie, accused the permanent secretary of intentionally hindering the country’s infrastructure development by causing delays in file processing and selectively treating files. The GMI alleged that Mahmud’s past support for the opposition candidate in the 2023 presidential polls suggests a bias against the present administration, leading them to view his current actions as deliberate attempts to ensure the government’s failure.

The CSO also accused the permanent secretary of collaborating with the Aso Rock cabal during the previous administration to undermine the candidacy of President Bola Ahmad Tinubu in the elections.

Furthermore, the GMI claimed that Mamman has been causing confusion in the Ministry of Works by removing some directors from their official duties, and when confronted about his actions, he allegedly boasts about his relationship with the Head of Service of the Federation.

Although the permanent secretary had pledged to run an open administration when assuming office in June 2023, the GMI asserted that he has not lived up to this promise.

When approached for a response, the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing stated that they will not address unauthenticated allegations, pointing out that the petition lacks essential information like a signature, date, and identifiable address.
