Anyim, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation and a key PDP figure, had recently convened with President Bola Tinubu at Aso Rock, leading to speculation regarding a potential defection to the APC.

During the July meeting with President Tinubu, Anyim remarked, “It was a privilege to extend my respects to the President and commend him for his successful inauguration as the 16th President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Speculation has been fueled by rumors that significant members within the PDP are contemplating leaving the party to align with the ruling APC. Reportedly, these individuals are open to accepting appointments from President Tinubu, who has advocated for a government of national unity.

The rumors gained momentum when Nyesom Wike, the immediate past governor of Rivers State, was included in President Tinubu’s list of ministerial nominees presented to the Senate. Wike has already undergone the Senate’s screening process, awaiting potential confirmation as a federal minister.

Insiders have shared that Anyim’s actions indicate a potential shift towards joining the APC, though this has not been confirmed officially.

Recollections from the previous general election point to Anyim’s alleged departure from supporting the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate in Ebonyi State, Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, in favor of endorsing the APC candidate, now Governor Francis Nwifuru.

Amidst the increasing whispers of PDP members leaning towards the APC, the party’s leadership convened over the weekend. However, no explicit disciplinary actions have been disclosed against those displaying inclinations towards the rival party.

In the aftermath of the meeting, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar took to Twitter to share, “Today, I joined other esteemed leaders and stakeholders of @OfficialPDPNig, including my Vice Presidential candidate, Dr @IAOkowa, Governors, and members of the PDP NWC. This assembly provided a platform to assess our nation’s current state and thoughtfully chart a path forward from the pivotal crossroads we presently confront.”
