Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has voiced his opposition to the proposed military intervention by ECOWAS in the Niger Republic to reinstate ousted President Mohamed Bazoum.

He argued that the Nigerian military is more than capable of defending the nation against external threats and that any war effort should be in response to a direct attack on Nigeria, not a foreign conflict.

The former minister criticized the notion of Nigeria becoming an enforcer for Western interests in the region, pointing out that past actions by these powers have not demonstrated genuine concern for Nigeria’s well-being.

Fani-Kayode further urged diplomatic approaches and restraint, stressing the importance of avoiding entanglement in conflicts that could potentially destabilize Nigeria and undermine the country’s progress.

He emphasized that it is essential to prioritize Nigeria’s national interest over any foreign agenda.

In addition, Fani-Kayode expressed skepticism about ECOWAS’ threat of military action, asserting that the failure to follow through with such threats could undermine the organization’s credibility.

He called for a diplomatic resolution to the crisis and advised against involvement in a complex geopolitical situation orchestrated by external forces.

Fani-Kayode concluded by cautioning against being drawn into a potential trap orchestrated by Western interests and emphasized the need for prudent decision-making to preserve Nigeria’s stability and progress.
