In a statement issued by Matthew Miller, the spokesperson for U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, the United States praised Tinubu for the rigorous actions taken to restore democracy in the troubled nation.

The statement read, “Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken had a conversation with President Bola Tinubu today. The Secretary applauded President Tinubu’s guidance during the ECOWAS Second Extraordinary Summit on the Republic of Niger’s situation.”

“The Secretary emphasized the significance of sustaining pressure on the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland to reinstate constitutional order and ensure the release of President Mohamed Bazoum and his family.”

Bazoum has been confined to his Presidential Palace residence in Niamey after his ousting by the military on July 26. The military’s actions included suspending the constitution and forming a 21-member transitional government.
