Following a two-day summit in Ghana, ECOWAS Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, Abdel-Fatau Musah, discussed the potential “D-Day” for intervention.

However, military governments in Burkina Faso and Mali cautioned that any military action in Niger would be regarded as a declaration of war against them.

A Niger television station reported that the military leaders from Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger convened in Niamey to discuss “concrete measures” in response to the possibility of escalated conflict.

Fani-Kayode expressed his views on these developments in a tweet, describing them as madness. He pointed out that there are more Nigeriens living in Nigeria than in Niger and emphasized the potential consequences of military action, including the risk of a civil war due to the significant number of Nigerians on both sides of the border.

The former minister stressed the need for careful consideration of the implications for Nigerians before resorting to military action.
