He questioned the sustainability of maintaining external debt payments consuming such a substantial portion of revenue. Tinubu underscored the urgent need for the challenging changes essential to uplift Nigeria from its current state and to establish it as a respected global player.
Reflecting on the conference theme, “Getting it Right: Charting the Course for Nigeria’s Nation-Building,” Tinubu emphasized the necessity of making resolute decisions to set the country on a trajectory of growth.
He asserted that despite the initial hardships accompanying meaningful reforms, these reforms are pivotal to leading Nigeria toward its envisioned future.
He highlighted the reforms he implemented as Lagos State Governor, specifically in the realm of judiciary. Tinubu renewed his commitment to resolving the issue of remuneration for judicial officers and legal practitioners, stating that genuine justice reform must commence with offering competitive salaries and benefits to legal professionals in Nigeria.
Addressing the audience of legal professionals, he expressed his eagerness to learn and underscored the need for a change in attitude and mindset.
He called for a shift away from blaming past leaders and focusing on a forward-looking and determined approach. Tinubu urged everyone present to utilize their skills and determination to contribute to the nation’s greatness.
