The much-anticipated season-opening tournament, filled with excitement across the country, reached its climax with Katsina Max Air achieving a remarkable double victory.
They secured the event’s most prestigious prize, The Nigerian Cup, and the Dikko Memorial Cup in a remarkable performance.
In the thrilling Nigerian Cup final, the Katsina Max Air team lived up to their pre-tournament reputation, defeating the determined Kaduna Trappco team and successfully defending their title. They also claimed the Dikko Cup, played in honor of the father of Nigerian polo.
The grand finale, attended by the Emir of Katsina, HRH Alhaji (Dr) Abdulmumuni Kabir Usman, alongside other first-class Emirs and a VIP stand filled with dignitaries and passionate polo enthusiasts, witnessed Max Air (2) Team’s victory over the visiting Kano Nassiriya team, securing the event’s second most coveted prize, the General Hassan Cup.
Katsina-based teams faced some challenges, with Mohammad Babangida-powered Minna Profile causing the biggest upset of the prestigious festival by defeating the highly-rated Kwakol Polo Team in the final. Mambo Musa scored the sudden-death goal that secured Profile’s first-ever Talba Cup title.
Among the other notable winners of this grand event were the Kano-based Gilaso Ismanaf team, who triumphed over their Katsina Al-Muazzam counterparts in the final, securing the newly introduced Wazirin Katsina Cup and the Coomassie Cup, respectively.
