In a recent ruling, the National and State Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal in Benin has rejected two petitions aimed at overturning Dennis Idahosa’s victory in the Feb. 25 Ovia Federal Constituency election.

Both petitioners alleged non-compliance with the Electoral Act, 2022, irregularities such as over-voting and multiple thumb printing, and the non-usage of BVAS machines during the election.
However, the tribunal, led by Justice Yusuf Mohammed, ruled that the petitioners failed to provide sufficient evidence to support their claims. Counsel for Omosede, Mr.
Santos Owootori, expressed discontent with the judgment and announced plans to seek redress in the court of appeal, while counsel for Idahosa, Mr. Famous Osawaru, praised the verdict as being fact-based rather than sentimental.
