Gunmen Raid Jalingo Neighborhood, Abduct Policeman And Family, Leaving One Dead

In the early hours of Sunday, September 10, suspected gunmen launched an attack on a residential area in the Mile 6 district of Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State. Usman Abdullahi SP, the spokesperson for the Nigeria Police in Taraba Command, confirmed the incident. The kidnapped police officer, who serves with the Rivers State Command, was taken captive alongside his wife and daughter. Additionally, a woman in the house was shot and later pronounced dead at the Federal Medical Centre.

During the incident, they also kidnapped his wife and daughter. They shot him and another woman in the residence. The woman was sadly confirmed dead at the Federal Medical Centre. The Command is actively working to ensure their safe rescue.”
A resident of the neighborhood, who was present during the attack, shared that the assailants conducted their operation around 2 a.m. on Sunday and numbered over 40.
However, this resident offered a different perspective on the incident. According to him, the initial target was a clergyman residing in the area, but since he was not present, the attackers abducted his family members instead.
The resident revealed that the kidnappers came from the mountainous regions bordering the neighborhood and had posed a threat to the community for some time, with no action taken by authorities to eliminate them.
This marks the second kidnapping incident within Jalingo, the state capital, in the span of two weeks. Earlier, gunmen abducted two different family members in the Mayo Dasa suburb of Jalingo, but they were subsequently released unharmed.
