He emphasized that, for the first time in Nigeria’s history, all elected heads of the government branches were produced by the National Assembly.
Speaking at the opening of a retreat for the leadership of the 10th National Assembly in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, Vice President Shettima reiterated his commitment to maintaining an unbreakable fraternal bond between the executive and the legislature. He stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains dedicated to safeguarding Nigeria’s democracy.
Assuring the National Assembly leadership of the President’s unwavering commitment to reinforcing democratic ideals and values through collaborative partnerships with all branches of government, Shettima highlighted President Tinubu’s exemplary democratic credentials, including legislative experience.
He emphasized that these credentials would continue to shape the President’s governance style, particularly regarding the rule of law, separation of powers, and respect for constitutional rights.
Senator Shettima described the composition of the Federal Government and the leadership of the 10th National Assembly as historic and unique, emphasizing their significance as a major pathway to Nigeria’s unprecedented development. He expressed confidence that the expectations of Nigerians would be met, despite current challenges.
