Alongside Cardoso, the Senate will also assess four nominees for the positions of Deputy Governors of the CBN, who will work together with him to oversee the affairs of the apex bank for the next five years.

A statement issued by the Media Office of the Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, confirmed that the Senate will conduct the screening as part of its activities upon resuming from its annual recess. The Senate had adjourned its sitting for the annual recess on August 8.

The statement reads, “The Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria will resume plenary on Tuesday, September 26. We will consider the screening of Dr. Cardoso at the Committee of the Whole.”

Cardoso’s screening will be conducted alongside that of four deputy governors: Mrs. Emem Usoro, Mr. Muhammad Dattijo, Mr. Philip Ikeazor, and Dr. Bala Bello.

Furthermore, the Senate has also scheduled the screening of ministerial nominees, Dr. Jamila Ibrahim and Mr. Ayodele Olawande, designated as the Minister of Youth and Minister of State for Youth, respectively, for October 3.

President Bola Tinubu had approved the nomination of Cardoso as the new Governor of the CBN on September 15. Tinubu also greenlit the nomination of four deputy governors for an initial term of five years, pending their confirmation by the Senate.
