This warning was conveyed in a public alert signed by the Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, in Abuja on Sunday.
Adeyeye emphasized that the agency received information about these products through a statement from the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) in Singapore.
She pointed out that the involved potent medicinal ingredients are not authorized for use in these products and could result in severe adverse effects for consumers.
The HSA, as per Adeyeye, verified that three of the products led to adverse reactions in four individuals after consumption.
The NAFDAC Director-General revealed that laboratory assessments conducted by the HSA revealed the presence of potent medicinal elements, including steroids, in these products.
Furthermore, the products were found to contain sibutramine, a banned substance related to weight loss, and tadalafil, an erectile dysfunction medicine.
Adeyeye also disclosed the sources of these products, citing ‘ENRU PLUS+’ and ‘HKT HERBA KURUS TRADISI’ obtained through local e-commerce and social media platforms as the origins.
The potential adverse effects associated with the potent ingredients found in these products include Dexamethasone and Prednisolone.
