This change appears to be a response to the judgment of the State Election Petitions Tribunal, which declared his closest rival, Nasir Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the rightful winner of the March 18 election.
While the popular online encyclopedia, Wikipedia, still recognizes Abba Kabir Yusuf as the incumbent governor of Kano State, a Google search for his name now indicates that he is the ‘former governor.’
It’s worth noting that both Yusuf and his party, the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), have already taken their case to the Appeal Court to challenge the Tribunal’s verdict.
According to the Nigerian legal system, Yusuf remains the governor of Kano State until the final resolution of the case at the highest court in the land.
