It is worth noting that a Court of Appeal had previously dismissed the treasonable felony charge against Kanu and ordered his release, citing arguments that the IPOB leader was brought back to Nigeria unlawfully after he had jumped bail.
In response, the government appealed the appellate court’s ruling and approached the Supreme Court to overturn the decision.
Kanu, on the other hand, is requesting that the court uphold the ruling for his release and set aside the stay of execution on the judgment.
After the federal government, represented by Tijani Gazali (SAN), and Kanu, represented by Mike Ozekhome (SAN), presented their final submissions on Thursday, the Supreme Court has scheduled December 15 as the date to deliver its verdict.
