The conflict has forced many residents from both communities to flee to seek safety, with security personnel evacuating corps members for their protection.
In response to the situation, the state government issued a statement on Friday through the Commissioner of Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, imposing a 24-hour curfew on the feuding communities.
Governor Ademola Adeleke also instructed the Joint Security Task Force, comprising the Army, Police, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, to maintain constant surveillance over both communities.
The statement read, “Governor Ademola Adeleke has ordered the immediate commencement of a 24-hour curfew in Orolu and Irepodun local governments, which encompass Ifon and Ilobu communities, effective immediately, to ensure enduring peace and order while awaiting the amicable resolution of the current issues.
“In his capacity as the Chief Security Officer of the State, Governor Ademola Adeleke has directed his administration to take immediate control of the disputed lands/areas.
“Furthermore, the government has decreed that anyone or any group found engaging in any activity on the disputed lands/areas will face the full consequences of the law as administered by the Osun State government.”
