A group of young members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State have commended the party’s national chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, for offering what they consider to be sage advice to a party chieftain in the state, Hon. During a visit to his office in Abuja by an APC faction from Rivers State led by Okocha, Ganduje advised both factions of the party to cease overheating the system and allow the APC National Working Committee (NWC) to address the issues.
In response to this development, the youths advised Okocha, who also serves as the member representing Rivers State on the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), to refrain from involving the name of his successor in office and fellow APC chieftain, Engr. Chukwudi Dimkpa.
In a statement released in Port Harcourt on Friday and signed on their behalf by Dae Stephen Degbara, the youths clarified that Dimkpa had not been a part of any meeting where decisions, as alleged by Mr. Okocha, were made.
The statement read in part: “We have become aware of a statement made by Tony Okocha, who identifies himself as a ‘digital leader’ of the Rivers State Chapter of the APC.
In this statement, he claimed that our esteemed leader, Engr Dr. Chukwudi Dimkpa FNSE, was present at a meeting convened by the former Governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi CON.
At this meeting, according to Mr. Okocha, a decision was reached to support H.E. Abubakar Atiku, the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, in the recent general elections.
“As individuals who have held public office, we would expect that individuals such as Mr. Okocha, who identify as ‘leaders,’ should exercise caution with their words, adhere to factual information, and strive to promote unity rather than division.
