It’s frustrating to see individuals who still hold grudges from the previous elections working feverishly to paint a negative picture of everything originating from this administration. In this sceptical atmosphere, it is critical to shift the attention to the realities of the country’s success.
For those willing to face reality and recognize the strides being made, here is some good news from the Federal Government.
In a groundbreaking move aimed at transforming the landscape of digital and creative enterprises, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is gearing up to launch the $617.7 million Investment in Digital and Creative Enterprises (i-DICE) program in November 2023.
As anticipation builds, it is imperative for Nigerians to look beyond political sentiments and concentrate on the tangible benefits this initiative promises to deliver.
Guided by Vice President Kashim Shettima, the i-DICE Steering Committee is leaving no stone unturned to ensure the program’s successful commencement before the year’s end. The Vice President’s directive underscores the government’s unwavering commitment to delivering on its promises to Nigerians, particularly in the realm of digital job creation.
Here are four major advantages that highlight why Nigerians should turn their attention to the potential opportunities given by the i-DICE programme:
1. Job Creation: Foremost among these benefits is the program’s potential to create millions of digital jobs. In a nation grappling with soaring youth unemployment rates, this initiative offers a lifeline to the teeming youth population. By emphasizing inclusivity and active involvement of women, the program aims to generate economic opportunities for all segments of society.
2. Economic Growth: The injection of $617.7 million into the digital and creative sectors acts as a catalyst for economic growth. The i-DICE program aspires to nurture local innovation and bolster confidence within the technology startup ecosystem. This substantial investment not only nurtures budding entrepreneurs but also positions Nigeria as a global leader in technology and creativity.
3. Inclusivity: The program’s unwavering commitment to inclusivity stands as a testament to its potential impact. With a goal of achieving 50% participation by women, i-DICE seeks to bridge gender disparities in the digital and creative sectors. This approach ensures that opportunities are accessible to all, promoting diversity and equality in these industries.
4. Startup Ecosystem Development: By providing financial support to technology startups, the government demonstrates its dedication to nurturing local talent and promoting indigenous solutions. This initiative actively encourages innovation, with the aspiration that new unicorns (highly successful startups) will emerge, further contributing to Nigeria’s economic development.
In light of these substantial benefits, it becomes abundantly clear that the i-DICE program holds immense promise for Nigeria’s future. As the government collaborates with international partners and key stakeholders, the stage is set for a digital and creative revolution capable of positively impacting millions of lives.
The Minister of Finance, Mr. Wale Edun, rightly emphasized that this project aligns with President Tinubu’s promise to create 1.2 million digital jobs. The i-DICE program is not merely about fulfilling a promise; it is about embarking on a transformative journey toward prosperity.
Nigerians are strongly encouraged to embrace the i-DICE program with optimism and a forward-looking perspective. While political sentiments have their place, the true focus should remain on the substantial gains that await in the realm of digital and creative enterprise. With government support and the dedication of stakeholders, the i-DICE initiative represents a remarkable opportunity for individuals and the nation as a whole.
