As a reminder, the Federal Road Safety Corps has emphasized the importance of arming its personnel to enhance their security in light of the prevailing security challenges across the country.
The Corps Marshal, Dauda Biu, made this request on Saturday during the inauguration of 1,762 corps personnel who had recently completed their four-month introductory training at the Nigerian Army Training Centre (NATRAC) in Kontagora, Niger State.
Biu, represented by Deputy Corps Marshal Shehu Zaki, emphasized that this measure would provide necessary protection for personnel who frequently face attacks while performing their duties, either from certain road users or suspected criminals exploiting the security challenges in the country.
In response, the former Senator from the Kaduna central district expressed his support, stating, “I endorse the idea that the Federal Road Safety Corps should be armed,” as he conveyed on an undisclosed platform.
He further clarified, “However, this should apply exclusively to those operating on federal highways outside urban areas.”
