He argued that continuing with the court proceedings might hinder the settlement efforts, as the parties may be unwilling to compromise their positions.

Additionally, the Plaintiff’s counsel disclosed that the House of Assembly had submitted a petition to the National Judicial Council (NJC) on October 3, 2023, containing disparaging remarks about the presiding judge. This petition implied that the House of Assembly lacked confidence in the judge. Therefore, he suggested that it would be prudent to await the NJC’s response to the petition.

He requested that the petition be shared with all parties for their response, while also condemning the Assembly’s unguarded comments and actions.

In response, the legal representatives for the state governor and the Chief Judge of the state clarified that they were not part of the reconciliation efforts and preferred that the court proceed with addressing the issue of jurisdiction.
