Ndume stressed that senators should receive timely information so they can adequately prepare for debates on bills before they become law.
As the chief whip of the 10th Senate, he reiterated the importance of having at least 2/3 of the senators present when bills are passed.
Another senator expressed his concern about the swift passage of bills, particularly those related to financial matters, which are approved within a mere two hours.
This senator cautioned Akpabio that history would ultimately assess his leadership of the Senate if such practices continued.
He conveyed, “We are frequently taken by surprise when sensitive bills are introduced and expected to be swiftly passed.”
In response to the senators’ comments, Akpabio asserted that Nigerians and history would remember him positively because the expeditious passage of bills is in the best interest of the country.
