In an attempt to prevent the situation from worsening, Senate President Godswill Akpabio abruptly called for an emergency closed session.
Ndume invoked order 54 of the Senate Rule Book when raising a point of order to address his concerns about Akpabio’s management of affairs in the chamber, which he believed violated the rules.
He remarked, “Mr. President, there are some things we do in this chamber that are against the rules. Sir, nobody is too big to learn.”
Akpabio swiftly ruled Ndume out of order before he could conclude his statement. Clearly agitated, Ndume left the chamber and headed straight to his office.
Shortly afterward, Ndume received a call from a colleague, urging him to return to the chamber for an executive session. As of the time this report was filed, the executive session was still in progress.
