The state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Idowu Owohunwa, issued this order on Wednesday in response to allegations of extortion involving certain police personnel stationed at the Meiran Police Station.
Engineer Ibrahim Saliu had accused these officers of extorting N200,000 from him the previous Saturday. This incident occurred after he and his brother, Olaiya Murtala, were detained for failing to provide an identity card or receipts for the iPhones discovered in his brother’s possession.
Providing an update on the situation, Lagos Police spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, stated in an official statement that the DPO has been relieved of their duties.
Hundeyin conveyed, “The Commissioner of Police has directed the immediate removal of the DPO of Meiran Police Station due to a failure in leadership and supervision.”
He further noted, “All officers implicated in the alleged extortion have been identified and are currently at the command headquarters, where their internal disciplinary proceedings have begun.”
