The Maiduguri railway station was once a bustling hub of activity, where prominent entrepreneurs employed this system to move their merchandise from Maiduguri to other regions of the country.

In turn, it facilitated the transportation of goods from other parts of Nigeria into the city, significantly contributing to Borno State’s economic growth.

Benefiting from its proximity to neighboring African nations such as Niger, Chad, and Cameroon, Borno enjoyed the advantage of businesspersons from as far away as the Central African Republic and Sudan, who employed the bordering countries to import Nigerian products to their home countries. The availability of railway transportation services streamlined and made their commercial activities more cost-effective.

However, with the discontinuation of railway transportation, the economic prosperity once flowing into the state dwindled. Citizens have been eagerly anticipating the return of the railway system, which previously boosted economic opportunities, making Borno State regain its status as the “Home of Peace.”
