Wike delivered this caution in Abuja on Tuesday while overseeing the ongoing distribution of food supplies to needy residents in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

According to reports from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the FCT Administration (FCTA) initiated the distribution of 12,000 bags of rice and maize to underprivileged households across the FCT’s six area councils.

Represented by Mr. Lawan Geidam, the Mandate Secretary of the Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat of the FCTA, the minister reiterated the government’s dedication to addressing the challenges faced by the less fortunate.

He emphasized that the removal of petroleum subsidies disproportionately affects the economically disadvantaged and stressed the importance of prioritizing their well-being.

Wike therefore cautioned those entrusted with the distribution process to resist any temptation to divert the food supplies intended to mitigate the effects of the subsidy removal.

He stated, “The commitment to sustain the palliative distribution demonstrates the dedication of the President Bola Tinubu administration to offer support to vulnerable residents in the FCT.

The initiative is designed to alleviate the financial hardships resulting from the removal of fuel subsidies and ensure that essential food items reach those most in need.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Christopher Maikalangu, the Chairman of AMAC, urged the administration to allocate additional food items to AMAC due to its significant population of disadvantaged individuals. He assured the minister that the food supplies would reach the specified groups in all of the council’s political wards.

In a parallel distribution effort in Bwari Area Council, Wike issued a warning that the FCTA would not tolerate any acts of sabotage.
