Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, to reassign the Imo State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) before the upcoming governorship election.
PDP alleged that the current REC, Sylvia Agu, has been compromised and could manipulate the November 11, 2023 election in favor of the All Progressives Congress (APC). They demanded her removal to ensure a fair and credible election.
The opposition party urged Yakubu to follow the example of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, who reassigned the Commissioner of Police in Imo State to maintain impartiality in the upcoming poll.
PDP emphasized the importance of public confidence in the electoral process and claimed that Agu’s presence as the REC would undermine the election’s integrity.
They cited allegations of secret meetings between Agu and certain APC agents facilitated by her close relative, an APC national officer.
In light of these concerns, PDP called for Sylvia Agu’s immediate reassignment to restore public trust and ensure a credible election in Imo State.
