According to the APC leaders, they recognize Mr. Etekamba Umoren as a technocrat who has held various positions in the state but is not a registered member of their party.
Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), led by Awwal Musa Rafsanjani, have completely rejected the appointment of partisan individuals as RECs by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In particular, the CSOs claim that Mr. Etekamba Umoren from Akwa Ibom State and Mr. Isah Shaka Ehimeakne from Edo State are believed to be card-carrying members of the APC.
It has been reported that Umoren previously served as an aide to the current President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, during his tenure as the governor of Akwa Ibom State.
He also held the position of Chief of Staff to the President of the Senate when he served as the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs.
However, addressing journalists, the leader of the 2023 APC Candidates Forum in Akwa-Ibom State, Hon Eseme Eyibo, stated that his party has instructed them to clarify the situation regarding the REC, emphasizing that he is not affiliated with the APC.
