This significant decision emerged from the SEC meeting held on Wednesday night, presided over by Governor Umo Eno at the Exco Chambers of the Government House in Uyo, the state capital.

The budget, anticipated to address a spectrum of sectoral reforms encompassing agriculture, health, education, youth and women empowerment, rural development, physical infrastructure, and the completion of projects left unfinished by the former governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration, will be subjected to the governor’s approval upon passing.

The budget breakdown, as presented by the Commissioner of Finance, Mr. Nsikan Linus Nkan, outlines a total recurrent expenditure of N352.737 billion, with an estimated capital expenditure of N487.895 billion, resulting in a comprehensive budget of N840,632,409,990.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Comrade Iniobong Ememobong, highlighted that the budget estimate gained approval “after careful deliberations by members and subsequent approval through a motion duly moved and seconded.”

Another crucial issue discussed during the meeting was the persistent challenge of water and sanitation in the state.

The governor directed the Commissioner for Water Resources and Sanitation to reactivate and make functional water works within the Uyo metropolis and selected rural areas, marking the initial phase of efforts to ensure water provision across the state.
