Temporary Shutdown Ends As Port Harcourt Airspace Reopens

A spokesperson for the airport informed journalists that the affected aircraft is currently being attended to, and efforts are underway to remove it from the runway.
Despite these ongoing efforts, the airspace is now accessible to other airlines for regular operations.
The official clarified that no aircraft had been permitted to land at the Port Harcourt International Airport since the incident occurred.
The involved aircraft, belonging to ValueJet airline, had 67 passengers and 5 crew members on board. Fortunately, there were no reported fatalities, but some passengers sustained injuries.
ValueJet airline’s management attributed the incident to the presence of algae on the taxiway, causing the aircraft to slip off shortly after landing. They emphasized that there was no damage to the aircraft during the occurrence.
