Ola Olukoyede, the chair of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has called on Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to initiate robust grassroots campaigns against corruption.

Olukoyede made this appeal during an interaction between the EFCC and CSOs in Akwa-Ibom, Abia, and Cross River, according to a statement from EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale on Saturday in Abuja.

Olukoyede emphasized that the fight against corruption requires the support of all national stakeholders, including the general public.

He urged CSOs not to leave the responsibility solely to the EFCC but to actively engage in enlightening the public, particularly at the grassroots level.

The EFCC chairman, represented by Bawa Saidu, the Commission’s Uyo Zonal Commander, encouraged participants with closer ties to the grassroots to disseminate anti-corruption messages.

Olukoyede also urged CSOs to provide the EFCC with relevant intelligence to uncover unethical behavior in society, emphasizing that such assistance is crucial for the success of the EFCC, benefiting every Nigerian.

Tony Orilade, Head of the Commission’s Public Interface Unit, highlighted various methods for the public to contact the Commission, including reaching out through the Commission’s website. Orilade emphasized that the public could engage with the commission whenever necessary.

ASE II Aisha Mohammed, speaking about the expected contributions from CSOs, stated that the goal of the engagement was to gather additional ideas on how to combat corruption effectively.

Mohammed emphasized the importance of CSOs as major stakeholders and expressed the Commission’s commitment to consult and collaborate with them for the overall interest of the nation.
