The 2024 Nigerian budget proposal has unveiled plans for President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima to allocate a staggering N10.13 billion for travels and meals. The N27.5 trillion budget proposal is currently under scrutiny by the National Assembly. CONTINUE READING
According to the proposed budget, President Tinubu is expected to spend N638.5 million on local trips and a substantial N6.9 billion on foreign travels, totaling N7.6 billion. Vice President Shettima’s travel expenses will amount to N1.8 billion, with N618.4 million earmarked for local journeys and N1.2 billion for international trips.
The budget includes provisions for feeding, labeled as ‘refreshment & meal and foodstuff for the offices of Tinubu and Shettima,’ with an allocation of N660.5 million. Of this amount, N287.8 million is designated for the President’s office, and N372.6 million for the Vice President’s office.
Further breakdown of the budget reveals N33.6 million allocated for refreshments and meals for the President, along with N254.2 million for foodstuff/catering materials supplies. Meanwhile, the Vice President is set to spend N35 million on refreshments/meals and N337.5 million on foodstuff/catering materials supplies. CONTINUE READING
Remarkably, the budget also accounts for the feeding of animals at Aso Rock’s zoo under the category “wildlife conservation,” with an allocated budget of N201.4 million.
In addition to travel and feeding expenses, the budget includes N800 million for the renovation of the President and Vice President’s quarters at the State House, with N500 million assigned for Tinubu and N300 million for Shettima.
Notably, the 2023 supplementary budget, approved last month, allocated N13.5 billion for the renovation of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima’s official residences in Lagos and Abuja. The 2024 budget proposal also includes N152.3 million for honorarium and sitting allowance for the President and N67.3 million for the Vice President.
Additionally, the budget earmarks N37.9 million for powering generators in the State House and N260.8 million for electricity charges. The comprehensive budget proposal reflects the financial allocations for various activities and expenditures within the presidency for the upcoming fiscal year.
