In the aftermath of the Kaduna error airstrike that resulted in civilian casualties, President Bola Tinubu delivered a message of encouragement to soldiers and officers of the Nigerian Army. Expressing deep sorrow for the loss of lives in the incident, Tinubu urged the army not to be disheartened, emphasizing that the destiny of the nation rests in their hands. Despite the tragic event, he called on the military to move forward, acknowledging that no compensation or gift can bring back lost lives. Tinubu assured that a thorough investigation would be conducted into the incident.
The president pledged his readiness to approve requests for the armed forces to provide adequate security in the country. He emphasized the need to prevent terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements from tarnishing Nigeria’s image with unlawful and disruptive activities. Tinubu also stressed the military’s role in protecting democracy.
Addressing a separate incident where soldiers shot at the State Police Headquarters in Yola, Adamawa State, President Tinubu issued a warning against inter-agency conflicts, urging the military to avoid such mistakes in the future.
During a visit to the Joint Task Force Northeast, Operation Hadin Kai at the Maimalari Cantonment Nigerian Army, President Tinubu assured the troops that the country’s leadership would continue to support them and their families. He expressed gratitude for their sacrifices and pledged to honor those who paid the ultimate price.
Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, highlighted the significance of the conference, being the first since President Tinubu assumed office and his appointment as army head. The theme, “Personnel Motivation for Effective Operational Performance in a Joint Environment,” reflects the conference’s focus on assessing army performance and enhancing the welfare of officers and soldiers.
The three-day conference is attended by former army chiefs, including Lt Gen Alani Akinrinade, Lt Gen Ishaya Bamayi, Lt Gen Azubuike Ihejirika, and Gen Lucky Irabor, along with current Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya. Also present are Principal Staff Officers from the army headquarters, corp commanders, field operation/theatre commanders, and commanders of army formations.
