Acknowledging the Nigerian Army’s dedication to safeguarding the nation, President Tinubu urged the armed forces to remain non-partisan while emphasizing their crucial role as guardians of constitutional order, especially during elections. In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu praised the army’s professional conduct in recent elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi States.
Expressing satisfaction with civilian-military projects across the country, President Tinubu highlighted their role in fostering understanding between the military and civilian populations. He also cited the recent procurement of new aircraft as evidence of his commitment to upgrading national defense capabilities and reiterated his administration’s focus on modernizing the military in terms of mobility, communications, and offensive striking capabilities.
President Tinubu underscored the government’s gratitude for the service and sacrifice of the armed forces, noting his approval of N18 billion in Group Life Assurance benefits for families of fallen heroes. He pledged continuous government support for the welfare of serving personnel and their families.
The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, commended President Tinubu’s approach to empowering the armed forces and enhancing intra-military collaboration, leading to increased morale among the troops. He expressed confidence in sustaining support for the military’s infrastructure needs, acknowledging the Tinubu administration’s substantial investments in improving operational capabilities.
Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, informed the President that ongoing military operations have significantly weakened criminal elements and addressed farmer-herders crises in various parts of the country. He emphasized the importance of continuous evaluation and outlined the conference’s role in formulating long-term strategies to fulfill constitutional responsibilities in the year 2024.
