Expressing his concerns in a statement issued on Saturday, Sheikh Dahiru emphasized the significance of Kano as the “commercial and religious center of the entire Northern Nigeria.” He underscored the potential consequences of a judgment contrary to the will of the people, cautioning that such an outcome could lead to violence and the loss of innocent lives due to the state’s volatility.

In a letter directly addressed to Justice Ariwoola and officially received by the CJN’s office, Sheikh Dahiru stressed the importance of maintaining peace, unity, and order, especially in a time of economic turbulence worldwide. He urged that the review proceedings of the Appeal Court be conducted impartially and justly, devoid of fear or favor, to prevent the people from feeling disenfranchised and their votes stolen.

The cleric highlighted the unanimous opinion of scholars, clerics, northern elders, and the general populace, urging that the Supreme Court’s judgment should align with the explicit expression of the people’s will through their civic rights.

Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi warned that if the Supreme Court upholds the Appeal Court’s verdict that removed Governor Abba Yusuf from office, it would be perceived as the theft of Kano people’s votes. This caution comes in the wake of the Supreme Court reserving judgment on the appeal filed by the NNPP seeking affirmation of Abba Yusuf as the rightful governor of Kano State.

The cleric’s appeal follows retired Justice Muhammad Dattijo’s previous criticisms of the judiciary during his valedictory speech, where he explained the reasons behind the public’s discontent with the judicial system.
