The inaugural edition of RHIESS, themed “Better Days Ahead,” took place at the Lagos House in Ikeja. Senator Oluremi highlighted the program’s focus on economic empowerment for the well-being of elderly citizens nationwide.
Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the wife of the Lagos State Governor, presented N250 million in cash and gift items on behalf of Senator Tinubu during the event. The gesture, amounting to a total disbursement of N950 million, marked a significant step toward the government’s commitment to creating a more inclusive and compassionate society.
Over 250 beneficiaries from 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in Lagos State received N100,000 each. Mrs. Sanwo-Olu emphasized the program’s non-discriminatory approach, ensuring that each state benefits from the initiative.
The RHIESS event, held simultaneously nationwide, extended its impact to veterans from the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA). Mrs. Tinubu urged senior citizens to embrace life, prioritize health, and strengthen bonds with loved ones and spirituality during their golden years.
In support of the initiative, Mrs. Sanwo-Olu contributed to RHIESS by presenting gift items and foodstuff to the 250 beneficiaries. The inaugural event included the distribution of cash to recipients, free medical screenings, and the provision of other essential items.
In a similar act of generosity, Senator Adetokunbo Abiru, representing Lagos East Senatorial District, distributed over 8,500 food packs containing rice, beans, and garri to constituents for Christmas and New Year celebrations. The initiative targeted vulnerable groups, including widows, individuals with disabilities, unemployed youths, women, and the elderly across the 16 Local Governments/Local Council Development Areas of the Senatorial District.
