Commending the initiative, Governor Otu highlighted its potential to alleviate poverty among vulnerable populations. He emphasized the need for collaboration from all sectors to achieve the ambitious goal of lifting 50 million Nigerians out of poverty by 2030. The governor pledged his administration’s support and collaboration with other federal initiatives aimed at poverty reduction.
Governor Otu revealed that some individuals had already started receiving payment alerts, describing the development as timely, especially during the Christmas season. He assured the people of a promising future for both the country and the state, expressing confidence in the government’s economic policies.
Addressing inclusivity, Governor Otu assured that the physically challenged would not face discrimination, as a commission had been established to address their specific needs. The minister, Dr. Betta Edu, echoed the president’s commitment to minimizing poverty and highlighted various federal initiatives such as Farmer Money, Trader Money, Conditional Cash Transfer, End Hunger Programme, and Skill Acquisition Programme.
Mrs. Eyoanwan Otu, the Wife of the Governor, emphasized the significant impact the initiative would have on countless lives in the state. She expressed gratitude to President Tinubu, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, and the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. Mrs. Otu urged beneficiaries to utilize the grant responsibly.
As the Federal Government collaborates closely with the Cross River Government and other states, the minister appealed to residents to support the governor in effectively continuing the poverty alleviation efforts initiated by the previous administration. The minister stressed the importance of full state participation in federal initiatives for comprehensive success.
